Manners, Ma’am?
My boys are now 1 ½ and 2 ½. Yes, time flies (I have probably said this a hundred times). They are still toddlers and neither has a big vocabulary. I am in a dilemma.
How do I teach them proper manners? Should I wait until they are more vocal? Both of them understand much of what we are saying, but still have trouble communicating their wants and needs. I always try to repeat “thank you” and other proper responses when we are playing and learning, but is there more I should be doing? I know the like imitate others so I try to lead by example.
They are both smart and I know once they are speaking well they will catch on. I guess sometimes I just feel lost. I read baby books and I have mom friends who give me advice, but I always feel like it’s such a wonderful and huge responsibility to bring up kids. I feel like I surely don’t want to mess up! Am I the only one that feels lost sometimes?
Do any of y’all have any suggestions on books? Or, maybe you have some wonderful advice to share? How do I make sure my kids know to open doors for others, say “yes ma’am” and “yes sir” and respect their elders? These common courtesies that I grew up exposed to seem to be dwindling and I want my kids to be the exception to that rule.
