Furchildren
Do any of y’all have fur babies? We have two. Amanda aka Mandy is our oldest. We adopted her in 2003 before we were even married. She lived with my husband and I would visit her and him on the weekends. I think sometimes she wishes it was just her and him to this day.
We like to joke that she was our starter child. We adopted her from a local shelter when she was about a year old. Her days were numbered at that shelter because she was a large dog, a lab mix, and the shelter workers told us her size, color and breed was one of the hardest to adopt out. She was such a sweetheart and had her “adopt me” face on (sweet little floppy ears with sad eyes) so we couldn’t say no.
Just like any first child, she was a handful, well probably more so than most first children. lol She had terrible separation anxiety and escaped from a metal kennel while my husband was at work by bending the bars. She also left the yard for a stroll by eating, yes eating, part of the fence. She met my husband at the front door when he arrived home with a smile on her face. She used to eat carpet, door knobs, you name it, when left at home alone. She drove us crazy, but was so sweet and loving in other ways. Thank goodness she outgrew that stage.
In 2004, we adopted Chloe, her little sister, from a friend who could no longer keep her. Chloe is a Chihuahua and dachshund mix and one of the most loving, cuddly dogs you could ever know. She would seriously be happy hugging and lapping up love all day long.
Our human children arrived in 2007 and 2008. Boy did that throw the girls for a loop. They were used to being spoiled rotten. I look forward to the day when all four of them can run in the yard and play. I always had dogs as a child and I hope my boys always will too.
Furry family members can bring so much joy to a family.
